Our Chiropractic Clinic Determines Root Causes

Figuring out the root cause(s) of your complaints, rather than just addressing the symptom(s), is essential to resolving one or many issues you didn’t even realize were related. We’ll combine the information you share about current and previous complaints with movement and neurological assessments to identify underlying causes and compensations contributing to your current health. We’ll also do a few in-house diagnostics to make sure your internal health is not hindering your healing process. Discovering who you are top to bottom, front to back, and inside-out is the first stage for activating your body’s natural healing potential and empowering you to feel better than you ever thought you could.

Adjustments and Chiropractic Techniques

At Active Edge, we believe that no one chiropractic adjustment is superior to another. Instead, we find that each technique has been created and followed because it helps people fix a specific issue, but no one technique or approach fixes everything.

As a team we value exposure to numerous chiropractic methods, approaches, and philosophies so that each of our doctors can tailor our services to each of our patients’ and partner’s individual needs. This is not a comprehensive list, but some of the techniques you may experience include:

  • Diversified
  • Motion Palpation
  • Graston
  • Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT)
  • Webster (previous certification)
  • CranioSacral
  • Logan Basic
  • Applied Kinesiology (AK)
  • McKenzie Method
  • Active Release
  • Peripheral Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)
  • Dynamic Neuromuscular Stimulation (DNS)
  • Pediatrics

#LifeActivated

A 4-year study of 21,743 people found that patients whose primary physician was a chiropractor experienced 43% less hospital admissions, spent 58.4% fewer days in hospital, underwent 43.2% less outpatient surgeries and spent 51.8% less on pharmaceuticals than the average American.*

Additionally, chiropractic care can positively influence patients ranging from newborns to elderly and everywhere in between. For example:

  • women who receive regular chiropractic care during pregnancy have reduced labor times by an average of 5 hours
  • Sinus pressure, headaches, and migraines can be relieved by cranial work
  • Adjustments and retraining can clear nerve irritation and improve organ function, strength, and growth
  • Small dysfunctions can be resolved before they become larger problems.

The evidence relating to the health benefits of chiropractic care and activating one’s natural healing ability is abundant. Despite evidence, it’s often hard to track because chiropractic work is preventative care, not reactive. As noted by the study above, living a “life activated” means you remain healthier and thrive, doing more of what you love with the time you have.

The question isn’t if we can help you, but what will you do with your activated life?

Our Doctors' Credentials and Education

Being Doctors of Chiropractic, that means we have some of the most in-depth training in spinal anatomy, musculoskeletal conditions and diagnosis, vertebral subluxations, kinesiology, and more. We’ve refined our knowledge over the years with continuous study about spine health and the far reaching affects it may have on your body as well as how other dysfunction can affect spine function and health.

Our doctors are trained in a variety of techniques and utilize this diversified approach to make each patient’s experience as effective and comfortable as possible. Some of the techniques in our office include:

  • Thompson Drop, Logan Basic, Webster
  • Activator, Cranio-sacral, Nasal Release, SOT
  • Anterior lumbar (ringer dinger), Applied Kinesiology, and more.

Our doctors are also trained in and regularly utilize concepts from ART, Anatomy Trains, Rock Tape, Neuromuscular Therapy, Postural & Functional Restoration. Scar tissue release, DNS, Rock Tape and others to balance musculature and retrain movement patterns.

Active Edge Doctors are constantly researching new therapies and techniques to help our patients resolve even the most stubborn concerns. Beyond the physical modalities and techniques we listed above, our doctors are also versed in Functional medicine and techniques to help release emotions stored in the body and causing dysfunction. Neither, either, or both could be relevant in combination with your physical care, especially in cases of chronic or recurring problems.

As chiropractors, we also recognize the importance of all systems functioning well together and appreciate prevention (not early detection) over reaction. This is why we encourage periodic check-ins throughout the year to address new concerns as they arise, but before they become problems.

Applying this comprehensive set of tools in private practice since 2012, we’ve continually seen positive improvements in pain reduction and range of motion.”

What Our Patients Are Saying

At Active Edge, your first visit is where we start connecting the dots between your symptoms and their underlying cause(s).

During your Discovery Evaluation, you’ll:

  • Spend 1 hour with your doctor and discuss
  • Current concerns
  • Previous Injuries, illness, surgeries, etc.
  • How you sleep, eat, poop, your energy, and a number of other things that may or may not seem related
  • You’ll do a movement exam that can check for ranges of motion, muscle tone, strength, and neurological integrity

And then jump right into treatment, assuming further diagnostics are not needed, like x-rays or other tests.

As an analogy, think of a chiropractic adjustment like clearing a path in the woods for easier travel. Sometimes branches slow you down, block your path, or smack you in the face! Clearing the path makes you go faster.

Your brain is the control center and you want the information from your nerves to reach the brain as fast as possible.  Joint restriction or misalignment block the path, slowing you down and potentially causing irritation or pain. Adjustments speed up the flow of information and make your body happier.

A more scientific definition of a chiropractic adjustment or spinal manipulation is a procedure where a chiropractor applies controlled force to specific joints, typically in the spine to correct misalignments or subluxations. This restores proper joint function, relieving irritation to nerves, pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall well-being. Chiropractic adjustments aim to optimize the body’s natural healing abilities by promoting proper alignment and function of the musculoskeletal system.

Typically, a chiropractic adjustment session at Active Edge may last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. However, the actual adjustment itself usually takes only a few minutes.

The duration of relief after a chiropractic adjustment varies, ranging from a few hours to a few months. With Active Edge’s root grounded in functional medicine, we try to figure out the causes or your pain and recommend lifestyle changes to avoid recurring issues. Ultimately, retraining compensation patterns and undoing habits like poor posture is a gradual process, emphasizing the importance of ongoing care to achieve lasting benefits.

As range of motion, movement patterns, strength and endurance increase, adjustment relief generally lasts longer and improves over time. When the duration of treatment does not improve, issues continue to recur or becomes chronic, that means there is another layer that we haven’t identified yet.

This may be a structural issue that requires imaging, an old injury or scar that is perpetuating compensation/reinjury, referred organ distress, nutrient deficiency, physical presentation of stored emotions. Your chiropractor should work with you to dig into elements of healing that may need to be explored further for longer lasting results.

Following a chiropractic session, ensure lasting benefits by:

  1. staying hydrated—drink water to flush out toxins and lubricate joints
  2. avoid alcohol and sugary drinks to prevent inflammation
  3. move gently, avoiding strenuous activity for the first 24 hours to let the adjustment settle.
  4. prioritize rest/recovery care, allowing your body to heal and adapt to changes.
  5. Depending on the level of severity, we encourage light workouts to help your body recognize and integrate the new movement it has.
  6. Commit to recommended stretches and exercises provided by your chiropractor, crucial for maintaining spinal alignment and overall health.

Adhering to these post-session guidelines ensures a more effective and prolonged impact, helping you make the most of your chiropractic adjustment.

Every insurance provider has different requirements, restrictions, and allowances for chiropractic care.

IN Network: Chiropractors who practice in insurance networks will generally estimate your expense, submit the bills, and collect the remainder due for any uncovered services once they receive the EOB. In network providers are generally tied to working the specific areas related to specific conditions as dictated by insurance.

OUT of Network: Chriopractors who practice out of network or do not bill insurance at all will generally provide a super bill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Patients submitting are eligible for deductible credit or reimbursement based on their plan guidelines, but less restricted by diagnosis. Out of network chiropractors are less restricted in their care and generally practice more holistically, addressing far reaching roots of unresolved problems.

Our office is an out of network chiropractic office.

During a chiropractic adjustment, the release of toxins occurs as pressure is alleviated in muscle tissues around the spine or pelvis. Substances like lactic acid and accumulated waste products may be temporarily released into the bloodstream. While this can lead to brief discomfort or flu-like symptoms, these effects are generally harmless.

Soreness following a chiropractic adjustment is common and typically stems from the body adapting to the realignment of the spine and joints. The process may release tension in muscles, trigger a mild inflammatory response, and affect nearby muscles as bones and joints are repositioned. This transient soreness is generally part of the adjustment process and often diminishes as the body adjusts to the new alignment. Release of toxins may also be something to consider as a cause of soreness. If concerns persist, contact us for more personal guidance.

Stage 1: Discover Root Cause

You are your own person, with your own collection of life events which brought you to where you are today. You deserve to be heard, seen, and treated as the individual you are. Your journey begins with your Discovery Evaluation. This first visit includes your exam which works to uncover the root of your issue(s), new patient diagnostics, and, of course, your first treatment. This is how we will help you begin connecting the dots and feeling better. After your first treatment, we will ask you to observe your body’s responses– good, bad, or indifferent. There is no wrong answer as this is just starting point information and direction for moving forward. In your second visit, we will review this feedback and your diagnostics to further identify potential underlying causes and compensations. We will combine everything we have learned about you, consider your goals, and together create a plan to resolve your concerns from the roots up
