If you are like the other 6 million Americans who suffer from fibromyalgia, you are probably extremely frustrated because you can’t seem to find any relief. Your traditional treatments for fibromyalgia to manage symptoms probably include pain medications and antidepressants.
However, the real issue is not a deficiency of pharmaceuticals, it is the way your body is responding to information in your environment. By identifying and addressing environmental factors such as the food we eat and the toxins we are exposed to, we can help you to drastically change your quality of life.
Fibromyalgia is characterized by some combination of symptoms including:
Sometimes fibromyalgia is caused by a traumatic injury or event, and other times it spurs without an obvious cause. We recommend keeping records to help identify your fibromyalgia triggers.
Commonly, fibromyalgia is treated with a combination of medications such as antidepressants, anti-seizure meds, or analgesics to minimize symptoms of the fibromyalgia, but these fail to identify and treat the root cause.
Since fibromyalgia symptoms such as fatigue, chronic pain, and flare ups are similar to many other diseases, it is important to investigate all possible causes for these symptoms and view them in conjunction with one another to diagnose fibromyalgia.
Natural remedies to help with fibromyalgia can be as simple as getting enough sleep, exercising appropriately, resting, and de-stressing, other remedies include:
If you are currently suffering from fibromyalgia symptoms, traditional treatments may not be enough. At Active Edge, we strive to get to the roots of your symptoms.

Common causes of fibromyalgia tend to be from food sensitivities, gut infections and vitamin deficiencies. There are also some environmental toxins and genetic issues that can be involved.
Gluten
Many symptoms manifest as pain, cognitive impairment, sleep disturbances, behavioral issues, fatigue and depression.
Yeast
When overproduced, yeast breaks down the wall of the intestines, penetrates the bloodstream and releases toxic byproducts.
Thyroid Issues
Characterized by hot, cold, hair loss, unexplained weight gain or weight loss resistance, etc. Many thyroid issues have the same underlying factors as fibromyalgia.
Vitamin Deficiencies
Magnesium, vitamin D and B12 deficiencies are the most common, but fibromyalgia symptoms can result from other deficiencies as well.
SIBO
Small intestine bacterial overgrowth & leaky gut often stem from dietary sensitivities (ie: gluten, dairy, soy, corn, etc) and antibiotics.
HPAxis
HPAxis Dysfunction (commonly referred to as adrenal fatigue) taxes your adrenal system, causing hypersensitivity, mood disorders, and autoimmune disorders.
Mold Sensitivity & Toxicity
Some people are more sensitive to mold than others and some molds are more toxic than others.
Metal Toxicity
Any toxicity could be an issue, but mercury toxicity from old amalgam fillings or exposure to heavy metals are particularly concerning in the case of fibromyalgia.
MTHFR Mutations
Mutations of the MTHFR gene impact thinking, repairing DNA, turning on and off genes, fighting infections and getting rid of environmental toxins.
Glutathione Deficiency
Glutathione is the “The mother of all antioxidants.” Deficiency can cause acidity in the blood and tissues.
As Doctors of Chiropractic, our education is based on the foundation that our bodies are intelligent and interconnected. Our curriculum includes more nutrition education than medical doctors and some of the most in-depth training in anatomy, microbiology, diagnosis, and vertebral subluxations. We recognize the importance of all systems functioning well together, focus on prevention, and continue to refine our knowledge to heal problems from the inside out.
With studies under some of the Functional Medicine greats including Bob Rakowski, Jeffery Bland, Mark Hyman, and Jeff Bryst, our doctors have spent countless hours enhancing their coaching techniques, studying bioavailable diagnostic tests (blood, hair, skin, nails ), and gaining in depth knowledge of supplements, tinctures, essential oils.
We apply both functional medicine and physical techniques to enhance neurological communication and help patients’ bodies heal themselves of fibromyalgia. We also recognize emotions as a part of the process and utilize other tools to help shift the frequency of cell vibration to higher, more healing frequencies.
A variety of the techniques we use include:
Our wide range of knowledge helps us see the whole body picture and provide the most comprehensive care to find the root of dysfunctions of your fibromyalgia. Patient’s often feel positive improvements in pain reduction, increased range of motion, enhanced energy, and more, as they implement the tools they need for healing naturally and holistically.

Fibromyalgia is known to run in families, so there may be a genetic component to developing the condition. However, your environmental and lifestyle factors are really the big determinant of whether will develop symptoms
Fibromyalgia can cause pain throughout the body, and research indicates it can be caused by a combination of your nervous system, spine, and brain, in addition to the other causes mentioned above. The combination of symptoms, including widespread pain, can make you feel quite ill. Since there are typically multiple causes to flare ups it is important to address multiple causes when addressing fibromyalgia
Unfortunately, there is no set timeline for how long flare-ups can last. Some people may only experience temporary symptoms for a few hours while others have chronic conditions that last for years.
We also recommend writing down anytime you have a flare up to identify triggers so you can avoid those activities and future flare-ups. Possible triggers can include foods, infections, stressors (physical, chemical, and emotional), environmental pollutants/chemicals and poor movement patterns.
Yes, fibromyalgia is a disability according to the Social Security Administration.

As we aid you in activating your body’s natural healing potential, we will help you regain movement, energy, and body function both inside and outside. Throughout this process, you will start to feel greater ease and inspiration as you restore communication and efficiency in your body. You are your own person, with your own collection of life events which brought you to where you are today. You deserve to be heard, seen, and treated as the individual you are. Your journey begins with your Discovery Evaluation. This first visit includes your exam which works to uncover the root of your issue(s), new patient diagnostics, and, of course, your first treatment. This is how we will help you begin connecting the dots and feeling better. After your first treatment, we will ask you to observe your body’s responses– good, bad, or indifferent. There is no wrong answer as this is just starting point information and direction for moving forward. In your second visit, we will review this feedback and your diagnostics to further identify potential underlying causes and compensations. We will combine everything we have learned about you, consider your goals, and together create a plan to resolve your concerns from the roots up.
